Help!

When I try to make this:

After I click it comes out this:

Can anyone help me? Also, why does it say "Gray"?

its a low res pic...
...and, i believe (im new too) that u may have opend the file in gray scale instead of color (RGB)

no its just that the lasso tool sucks major balls, use the pen tool to make selections, a lot smoother
