View Full Version : LEGO Launcher (Solid Works)

This is what you get up to if you get bored! This is a launcher for a lego car i bought a few years ago! i did the modling in Solid Works and used Photo Works to reneder. This is a working model and up to scale! I'll probably model the car next so keep an look out! C&C is welcome.

My computer went hei-wire when i tried to render the model folded out! I'll post this pic later.

Would like to have your rendering skils ............ I think u could make some toons and thay would look good :D

I understand your problem. A lot of times when using concentric mates in SolidWorks - trying to open or "unfold" assemblies gets messy. On some of the products I design at work, some require a "scissor" mechanism. It is very similar to what you are doing here. Good job by the way. Keep us posted with more.

Interesting. Your materials or colours you used are too glossy, but your models are pretty nice.

i'll try and render some of the views when its completely opened up and make a gif file showing the motion of the launcher scince a full animation will be to big!

I feel your pain! My computer isnt one of the fastes or newest on the market an working with so much "mates" really made it difficult! I have only a partial knowledge of solid works scince we only used it for a semester! But ill keep them coming!

As for rendering in Photo Works i find it much easier than other programs scince you only unse materials in Solid Works wich u define when your building the individual parts! I gues you can set up a hole scene but i prefer choosing the backdrop from a list and clicking "Render". Very very simple.

i dont know about everyone else but i prefer Solid Works over any other 3D program although it is tough to moddel stuf like cars! This program simply rocks!

Once you get into it, the surface modeling isn't half bad. Also, at first, Photoworks seems like a basic rendering program. If you mess around with the settings and read a few tutorials, it is a very decent program, and faster than most others. I have a 3.4ghz w/2gb of RAM at work and it is difficult to model on that thing too. We are going to be upgrading to 64bit systems with 4gb of ram. There are a few memory leak errors with SolidWorks. When modeling, try and save your work periodically, and completely shut down the program. Then restart the program. It makes things run faster and more reliably. If you have any SW questions, feel free to ask. I mainly specialize in sheetmetal design, but I was trained on all other aspects as well.

I'v already worked throught the tutorials coming with the program but would still like to do some more so i will appreciate any help with this matter!

I made some ajustments to the material and rendered it all again so here it is along with an animation of how it works:
