Photoshop to Flash - alexmoody.com

Hi guys.

I'm finally working on my site for the alexmoody.com domain my dad bought for me a while back. All I've used it for was email, but now I'm turning it into a site to host some of my renders (in preperation for when i actually get good at 3d modelling). Anyway, I want to make the site out of flash but I didn't know where to start so I simply made it in photoshop. now I have to somehow figure out how to recreate it in flash. hmmm

anyway. here's a rough draft.

[quality is extremely low, i know]

it may be a little tough if you have NEVER used flash, it's EXTREMELY more in depth than Photoshop,

good luck

http://www.kirupa.com/ lots of tuts there

you can export from photoshop to flash(or anything). Just slice the photoshop your working on then go save for web and then in flash go to import and it imports the slices into the library. Just look through some flash tutorials and its all there. I dont rreally recomend that you use flash just because you'll never show up first in search engines but its up to you guys.

The only problem i have with flash is that, one of my friends used it to design some companies site and he said that updating it was a real b*tch. But If you Really want to do it in flash, def. go for it. You can make a very nice site even if you use Photoshop, Fireworks and Dreamweaver. If you need any help, let me know man.

yes updating another reason why flash is not my recomended first choice for websites. Of course flash will bring a real nice outcome (just look at www.2advanced.com or www.neostream.com) but then again I doubt that there making any clients off of search engines. Flash is good if you just want to have a website for the heck of it and dont intend to get customers that are searching for a particular service or good through search engines. Like Lamborghini, I doubt that they make many deals or sales over there website so its alright if they use flash but if you plan on getting customers imo flash is a big no no.

are you talking about updating the text on the page?

because if it's difficult, it was done incorrectly. You can link the text to an external text file, so it's easily edited. Very easy to edit.

In my opinion flash is an awesome ELEMENT of a webpage. But not all sites would benefit having an entire flash-based writeup. Certain sites, like sites with less interaction work great, but HTML with a backend is often better where there's alot more interaction, like buying things, etc... like eBay... Flash wouldn't be the best choice. If they want flash elements placed in the HTML page, it could make it better. The mix of both works well IMO

just cuz it has some cool stuff in it doesn't make it the best choice always.

All you've got to remember is K.I.S. Keep It Simple.

Don't try and make all of it at the same time, work on little parts of it and then import them parts into the final product, if you are making a step by step guide on how you made your render, make that into a flash movie and then import it into the larger flash file where the site is layed out.

Also, don't forget about using the layers and timeline features, they are the biggest help in flash and can help you to lay everything out easily and simply so that when you update the site, all you do is open up the .fla file and you can easily find what needs updating.

I hope that will help you

iv just learnet how 2 make websites from scratch but i have realised it isnt atuly as hard as it seems.
i have made my self a base 2 start on in photoshop then slised ti aand exported it to html.
and you could probly change some of the pictures in to flash and it wouldnt make to much differants. flash is a very clean and well prosented way of making things tho.
but its a hell of alot easer to use pixels than vecter lines. not as good result when resizing but easer
i also have just relised, as i was clicking on them links.
patels html/ photoshop based site loaded quick. but those 2 flash sites too so long 2 load i gave up on it lol.

how is pixels easier than vector? unless it's a photograph, vector is superior in sizeability, appearance, and filesize

tomsuth 09-04-2005 02:56 PM

o ok lol well i find using pixels easer. vector is all confusing and stuff. but hay i dont know much about flash at the moment. if i new more then i would probly find that easer.

well the goal i am trying to achieve with this site is something, clean, simple, and somewhat interactive. If I knew what I was doing, I would have it so the top left box is the only thing visible when its loading with a simple timer. when its done the text changes to "home" and when you click on it, the other boxes and lines slide out from it and other stuff happens and BOOM! website. I could make it in HTML much much much quicker and easier, but I really want this thing to be super cool when I finish it and html just kinda doesnt look too cool.

tomsuth 09-09-2005 10:18 AM

that would be realy cool, im shore you can do that iv seen it on a flash game i think so yeah its posible. but ul have 2 get some help
