Selection question

I need some help folks,

When I have a layer selected, for example: a vw logo, is there any way to select around the outline without using the lasso? I've deleted the unwanted parts from the middle so car shows through at the right parts but I want to change the colour and can't be arsed clicking all the way round.

Any advice?

if youre wanting to select only what is in the specific layer youre talking about, over where you have your list of layers, hold ctrl and click the layer thumbnail.
