right now, you have solidworks, which is a mechanical design program for 3d stuff. Making anything organic (people, cars, landscapes) is next to impossible with those, and extremely difficult to pull of right. I've seen idiots use Inventor to model cars, but the result always sucks and the thing looks like a micromachine half the time.
I recommend you download the trial of 3d Studio Max and look up a few tuts on organic modelling. It difficult to learn and understand, however the result is 1000x better when you have greater control over things such as 3d mesh's, fillets, round, itenerations, and smoothness factors.
It really makes a difference when you've seen both ends of the spectrum. Just because AutoCAD has [primitive] 3D tools doesn't mean you would use it to make an abstract background for instance.
Now I'm gonna work on my dune buggy thing for school.
