Default Video Card Driver Issues

WTF

Ok so it started when I starting thinking about how much performance I "should" be getting with my new Aopen 6600GT, and about how much I'm really getting. Nvidia claims that it can run Doom 3 on all ultra settings @ 1024, but I can barely run NFSMW on med settings @ 800.

So I go to update my drivers. I figured that was the problem and that it would be smart to anyway, so I head over to the Nvidia site to download the latest forceware stuff. I install that and restart. After the Windows loading screen (where I should be seeing a logon screen), I get a black picture, and the little green light on my monitor goes from green to orange.

****

So, thinking through this, I remeber one OT'er telling me when I got my card that Aopen makes you use their own drivers. So I restart the box, making sure to enable VGA mode and go download "Aeolus 6600GT-DV128" from the download page and install it

Same Problem

Okay, maybe that was the wrong driver (somehow?)

So, feeling defeated, I restart in VGA mode again and install the drivers from the CD. Should fix my problem, right? Um, no. I still get a black screen after the loading screen (where I should be seeing a logon screen) but the only difference is that the little light on my monitor stays green.

Try reseating the card. Maybe you didnt put it in correctly (even though your computer would probably be beeping if it wasnt in properly). That card requires two power conncectors correct? Are they both plugged in? Your problem may be your psu.

haha that sucks man. i had the exact same problem with my laptop. i noticed my video card was having some trouble so i kept trying to update the drivers and then i kept getting a black screen a couple minutes after i turned it on. that was five months ago and it the display still wont stay on for more than five minutes. i have to get the warranty from hp and have them fix it. so yeah, i dont know what to tell you. your problem might be a little different (and easier) to solve because you have a desktop.
