Default Crappy Framerate in CS

Hi guys.

This has been pissing me off for a while... OK, a while back I used to get a constant 100fps in CS 1.6. I was satisfied, and I loved it. Now, I am getting a mere 50-60fps. What happened? I don't have anything else running on my machine and more than I did back in the 100fps days (meaning I haven't installed 50 programs that run in the background). Nothing has changed. Only thing I can think that would be causing it would be a semi-full HDD (~4.5 gigs free). But that shouldn't affect it that much should it? I hope it is because I'm getting ready to do a complete clean of it soon to get rid of a lot of crap... Backup disc making fun....

Should I defrag? I just re-downloaded the ATi drivers, but they don't really seem that much newer.

Thanks.

mm no. setting the fps too high makes the framerate fluxuate too much. mine was at 101. I set it back to 72 and changed the resolution to 1280x980 and got 72 most of the time with occassional drops.

Still didn't fix my problem though, I only made a compromise. I would like to get back to my 100fps @ 1280x1024 days.

your freaking lucky as hell, i used 2 play at 50-70 now Source has gotten to 4-7 fps and i cant play, CZ and CS are at 20 and i play alright, not at my full potential, i posted this up in some geek haven website and the guys said to uninstal the drivers, un-plug and re-plug the gfx card and then reinstall the dirvers, i havent got time 2 do that tho, try it
