Apples are great. my advice tho wait for them to switch over to intel chips in the next year or so. While the PowerPC is nice its said to be slower when processing 3d graphics even w/ a top notch gfx card. Plus i dont think there are many games available for OSX as of right now. Make sure you go for a lot of RAM, as much as you can buy because when i used macs in my skool usin photoshop they'd crash everytime i applied a filter to a large document
oh and mostly every file type is backward compatable woth PC's. graphics programs (photoshop, illustrator, quark, Flash, ect.) are all types of files ive switched from pc's macs so its all good.

Ok well Ive decided if I do get one I wont play games on it so it doesnt matter if the work or not. It would be strictly for work and the occasional browsing of the net.

then the current macs will be perfect for you (unless by work you mean using 3d apps, NEVER use 3d apps on mac) but in 2d progs like photoshop it'll be even faster than a pc

2D apps wont be faster in Mac then in a PC because a PC u can change all the Hardware(Mac would be faster if u had a horrible PC)in a Mac ur very limited to changing the hardware.
u could always have any mouse u want on a mac...

no no no, the reason macs are better for graphical type things is the way the OS is wired. It deals with photos and the like much more efficiently than a windows machine.
ever notice when lookin at previews of photos in windows that they take forever to load all the thumbnails, and its only for the setyou're looking at (not nescisarily the whole folder). Scroll down some, it has to generate the thumbs again.
what about previews of animated .gif's? Notice how they never look right?
Watch the adobe bridge intro video. The guy uses a mac to demonstrate the many thumbnail browsing features of it such as resizing the previews via a slider. Notice how the images all scale perfectly and smoothly? Do that on a windows machine and you get a choppy, and slow resizing of the images.
macs are better for graphical stuff, period

what the heck r u talking about?
mac's are absolutely faster than PC's with graphic stuff. hands down. even the 'cheap' mac's are awesome. they don't make a bad computer.
what r u talkin about changing hardware??

he means upgradeing, which is slightly true. like for example i dont know if macs are upgradable at all, it seems like if u buy one ur stuck with it. but with a pc u can always get new hardware like for example i just put a 6600GT into my dell, and even added 512mb more ram.
