* Select the area
* And create a new layer and set the blending mode to soft light

* Grab a big brush and set its mode to overlay
* Make sure you have white picked as a colour

* Make sure you have white as a colour i know ive already written this but it wont work it you have a non white colour selected (heh non-white sure thats unoriginal.... unoriginal like a fox&#33

* Coulor in what you want to lighten

* and the end result the top is the orig
