I've never done a toon before, but I think that you don't need to use a definitive "line" to seperate every single color or shade. For this type of color seperation, isolate each color or shade using the pen tool to create a new path. this will keep every thing nice and smooth. And yes, for actual "lines" use much shorter strokes. If you don't like what you did, use your history to delete it, or just go back to right before you made the selection, go the path tab, right click, delete path, and start all over! There are some awesome examples of toons on this site -- study them!

haha wow this is going to get me banned but here we go...

Anyone that uses the line tool is a retard (sorry joe pen tool is better we all agree)

If you want smooth lines the pen tool is the only way to go, its more controllable, plus when you are done you don't have 6 million layers to merge...

also you can't just stroke the pen tool any old way you like, you have to stroke it using a brush, NOT PENCIL, anyways good luck with all your new knowledge

Maybe Mr D... has pelted "ART" in my face too much but I actually like his "toons" because they are ARTSY. It kind of reminds me of Autorama or whatever that PS2 Game that tanked fast was like because it was gay drifting than driving. Either way I do like his blocky aproach because it's refreshing from the normal way of tooning that I've seen. I'm sure it's less work than normal tooning though. Abstract is what I'm looking for...
