Ya this place is a bit dead atm....
From what i understood, after you have selected everything you want, and you see those little ant lines around your selection, the lines should be straight....
i could be wrong because i might not of understood correctly...
anyone else got any ideas???

If I know what you are saying, it is supposed to look like that. When using the lasso tool, especially at an angle, it'll never be perfectly straight unless you are using the polygonal lasso, in which case even on the pixel level it'll be jagged.

So, if I've understood, there are several ways to solve it. Either use the polygonal lasso, which will give you good straight lines all the time, or simply use the quick mask to select what you want.

For quick mask, hit "Q", paint what you want selected with the paintbrush (it'll be an opaque red-orange color). Hit "Q" again when you have everything painted you want selected, and go to Layer>Select Inverse. That just takes a little longer, but is usually a lot more precise.

What is happening is that a pixel can only have one color(i belive maybe 2) so when you go to select you cant cut a pixel in half so what is happeing is that it is selecting the whole thing. It should look pretty close to starit once you color it if you have a high res pic but if not it wont
