Yeah BT your off to a good start bro.
Normally at this stage I would put in the dark selections.
Like filling the wheel wells, vents, cutting out the glass and silhouetting the interior etc..
Then move on to shading, then do the reflectons like you have on the side and bumper.
As a rule of thumb its best to work from dark to light , and from the larger blocked in areas of color to the smaller more refined areas of detail.
Start thinking about your background too. Are you going to brush it or use a picture?
Since your original is a studio shot I wouldnt suggest you use it.
Because of the low angle you might have to do some searching to find an appropriate donor.
I would consider brushing it.
This style of work BTW is typically referred to as rendering and as you pointed out, it is a bit difficult as well as time consuming. But its well worth the effort as you saw how nice Reckoners ehd result was.
Take your time, have some patience and you should end up with a nice piece of original art yourself.

thanks heaps Dav , not sure what im gona do about a bg , i have never realy done any brushing before so i spose i better look at some other tut's , ill look for a bg to c & p but if nothing works out ill attempt to brush it
yer the shadows arent that good at the moment , i pretty much kept looking at Rekoners 370 and figuring it how he did it
thanks again bro.

update

changed a few things , ive also now realized that this shot is at an uncommon angle there is bearly anything else i could use for a bg

so yer i dont know wat is with the scorpion bits but i think ill leave the car a similar colour and they might just suit it in the end

having a go at a side vent , plz tell me if its outta whack , not sure weather i should leave it or go with the shape of the car , i didnt have time to look at any tut's so i just sorta guessed it , same with the shadowing , a bit rough around the edges still but ill fix them up later
thanks peoples.

Not a bad start... I agree with psd on the bg part and imo before you go any further do the bg change so that you can know how the lighting should be and adding reflections would be easy cause you would just c+p them off the other car and you can just go with how the other cars refs are

Oh I hate it when that happens !
Dont feel bad bro, been there a few times myself.
In fact some of you may recall a WIP render I posted awhile back of a 71 chevy pickup (refer to my "Slammed 71" thread). The exact thing happened to me one weekend after working about 5 or 6 hours on it. All of a sudden the whole house goes black for about 30 seconds. I dont know why, it wasnt weather related tho. Anyhow I was so p!ssed I shelved the project. I guess I need to ressurrect that now that I think about it.
Anyhow folks, learn from our pain and save frequently.
I try to do so every 10-15 minutes now.
An auto save feature would be a nice improvement to PS (you listening Adobe) !
