How to make a cool photo effect in photoshop

Firstly open up your picture your going to add the effect to. I'll use a sunrise photo i took last week.



Press CTRL+A to select the picture, then press CTRL+C to copy and CTRL+V to paste.



Now that is done, go to Windows >> Styles and make sure theres a tick next to it. One that is done, on the click on the little arrow at the top right of the box and click on 'Photographic Effects' and once you've clicked on that select the option highlighted in red in the picture then set the blending mode to 'Hard Light'



Now that is done it should look like the following image, if you want create a new layer and play around with gradients until you get a nice effect. You can do this last if you want.



Now we can add a border, Create a new layer (Ctrl+Shift+N) Name it 'Border'. Now that is done press Ctrl+A then go to Select >> Modify >> Border, set the bored to 100px Then fill it with black until you have a thick square border, then go to Layers >> Flatten Image

You can also experiment with other colors and effects, its not only purple you have to use. If you have any problem following this tutorial or need more help do let me know and i'll try my best to help
