right now, you have solidworks, which is a mechanical design program for 3d stuff. Making anything organic (people, cars, landscapes) is next to impossible with those, and extremely difficult to pull of right. I've seen idiots use Inventor to model cars, but the result always sucks and the thing looks like a micromachine half the time.

I recommend you download the trial of 3d Studio Max and look up a few tuts on organic modelling. It difficult to learn and understand, however the result is 1000x better when you have greater control over things such as 3d mesh's, fillets, round, itenerations, and smoothness factors.

It really makes a difference when you've seen both ends of the spectrum. Just because AutoCAD has [primitive] 3D tools doesn't mean you would use it to make an abstract background for instance.

Now I'm gonna work on my dune buggy thing for school.

ok So for us beginners what is a good program to start with for 3D design work, and if any are there any demo's of those programs.

to anyone that might care, im going into the US army here soon, 2 months of boot camp then im off to school for them for multimedia illustrator, where i will learn how to use photoshop( like i dont know how to now) and illustrator, flash, and some of the most common 3d programs.

I really like Bryce. I found that very easy to use. Also, if you are looking to model landscapes, try and get a program called Terragen. It is a free program and I think it works very well. As Hawk suggested, get the trial of 3d Studio Max. It may take a while to get the hang of, but there are many great tutorials out there. I picked up a good book to teach me some of the ins and outs. That helped me a lot. Here is the link to Terragen:

Bryce and Terragen Rule... If your really a begginer then Bryce is a good place to start, gives some basics to views and making objects from simpler shapes.
