Default Scratch disk full, among other things

OK, well a while back we bought a external HD, I've put alot of pictures that the wife has on the computer onto it and a few other things that we don't use often.

Well, now when I try to open PS it tells me the scratch disk is full and it refuses to open at all. Also, lately the computer has been running super slow, I don't know much about these things so any help on what I can do would be appreciated.

Also, when I hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and look under processes there is tons of things that I have no idea what they are, I heard you can end alot of things on this and it won't affect your computer but how do I find out which ones to end and which ones to keep?

I've got a Sony Vaio, maybe 2 years old at the most, running some version of windows but not sure which one.

BTW, I'm not looking to change anything major on the computer, just woould like it to run better and more efficent, so save the "Windows/PCs are crap, buy a Mac" discussion for somewhere else. And ya, I still run AOL, never had problems with it so why change it(that's a rhetorical question so don't bother replying to it).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Good place to start is to download CCleaner. Brilliant little App. It gets rid of all sh*t on your computer that you don't need.

Do something before you try out all these crazy ideas and mess up your computer.

Go to "Start Menu > Run" in the Run box type "msconfig." In the general section click on "Diagnostic Startup" and then continue restarting the computer. Once it is back up, you'll notice that it loads up really fast. Once it's done loading try to start up Photoshop, if you find that photoshop will then open, you know it's the programs starting with your computer.

If that's the case, then go back into MSCONFIG and in the General Section click on "Selective Startup." From there go to the "Startup" tab at the top, in there is all of the items that start up when you log in.

Generally I don't suggest a basic user to mess with this stuff, so if you don't know what it is, you probably shouldn't be turning it off.
