Get Xp Without Loosing Anything

Hi guys

I'm kinda running into problems here and there with my computer about a .dll missing or something... I'm afraid that it might have been because Windows 2K Pro has been put on there screwy... When I first got my computer I was having problems with it stalling and possibly locking up when I first setup windows. I brought it to a shop to first get memory that wasn't messed up and to see if they could figure out why Windows wasn't starting and, you know, fix it. Well I got home and windows was already set up as when I booted it went to the desktop. Oh well, at least its working, I didn't want to mess up the thing if it works.

Long story short, I think I ended up with two copies of Win2K on my computer and I'm hoping that I can re-install it without loosing any data whatso-ever, or even better, Upgrade to Windows XP Pro without loosing a thing.

The reason I'm asking this, is because an older existing computer for my family was upgraded to WinXP Home from WinMe and a lot of the programs on it either didn't work or needed to be re-installed. I don't want this to happen because I've got a lot of crap on this computer I don't want to lose or spontaniously disappear.

I've read somewhere that you can use system restor or something to re-install your OS and continue as normal without any hassle at all.

ok the update (update) should run smoothly from win 2k pro due to the fact that it is an nt bassed os same as xp however the update from me to xp is retarded me runs on a compltely different set of drivers but if i were you i would make a back up cd of all the things you want just in case dont take any chances when installing an os too many things can happen that could cause a total loss so back things up even if it means running out and spending 20 bucks on a cd burner
