You may want to do research and try to find out what software automobile companies use. I may be wrong but I think the industry mainly uses Catia or Pro-E which are both very expensive pieces of software. Hope this helps a little.

Alias AutoStudio 12 is the standard, and its cheaper than maya, but not as capable

edit: dont forget this software will cost a couple thousand, hope your still in school so u could get a academic discount. also make sure your excellent in math and physics, because if its car design you want to pursue theres a whole lot more to it than 3d apps

very true..i use maya 6.5.....and i love it....i had a go with max 7 but i did not like it one bit...maya for ever!

lol....i dunno ...max has more tuts available for it but maya is more comfortable to use....i recommend you maya..get the personal learning edition (its free for downlod) and see if you like it; then get the 3ds mx 30 dy trial..see which ever one ur more comfortble with!

you could go to the Art Center in CA-- they have an automotive design section.. going to school=credentials=more likely to get a job.. i plan on doing that myself, after i'm done with my Bachelors in Interactive Media Design, down here in San Diego...
