Default Clear Lights - The Right Way

I noticed a lot of choppers have been doing this so I decided to make a short tutorial, to add in an extra very special step in the process of clearing lights, to ensure it looks completely realistic. Desaturating lights leaves them only black and white with no hue sometimes looks pretty off. I noticed there was a similar tut. to this one but I just had to make my own for the extra step. This is my first tutorial by the way...

1)Let's start with our car we plan to use. I have chosen the Ford Mondeo.

2)Next we take the Polygonal Lasso Tool (L) and make a selection of what we'd like to clear. In this case, I'm going to clear both the orange in the headlight and the side marker. (You can do any part of the car, including the taillights, fog lights, 3rd brake lights ect.)

*Note: Only select the part you would like to clear and not the entire headlight!

3)Now desaturate it by pressing Ctrl+Shift+U and you should get something like this:

*Note: Do not deselect the selection you have.

4)Now with the lights selected, hit Ctrl+U to get the Hue/Saturation menu. Select the "Colorize" option on the bottom right and play around with the settings to get a light blue hue. The goal to try to make the color the same as the orginal light to keep the "realism" effect. In this case it is blue, some cases it could be more of a purple, or even another color. I have included my settings:

5)When you're happy with your settings hit "ok", deselect and you're done!

The effect is not very strong because we are only clearing a small part, when clearing bigger areas there is a very noticeable difference between the desaturated and colorized one.

I hope this helped ! Scroll down for more examples.

Well I think its a good tute mg.
I see alot of choppers do as you say, simply desaturate and leave it at that.
Which looks totally fake.
That extra step certainly makes a lot of difference.
Good one.
