Soooo..... Judging by your birthday, you started 3d modeling when you were 7 years old.
Very interesting seeing you probably were in 2nd grade. Sorry for this useless reply but I don't like liars.

he's got a point though. its not as easy as anyone thinks.

everyone thinks, ooh 3d modelling, I want to do it! I bet its easy! but in fact when they actually start with it, they do not attempt to enlighten themselves and flourish, but instead get frustrated and give up.

its really hard to model a vase, let alone a car.

a bunch of kids at my school try and make cars in inventor. they look lke abesolute crap because they're trying to create a sleek and curvy object using solids editing tools. solids editing isnt that easy, but surfaces are 100x harder to learn.

annnnnd this car was made with surfaces.

^^^ I agree 100%. People need to understand that you won't learn much by diving into a full on car modeling tutorial. You need to start off simple. Do a few cubes. Make a cube with a hole in it. Simple stuff.. Kind of like when most people started chopping. They didn't jump head first into brushing an entire car. They simply cut a few parts off another image and paste them in place, or did simple mods like color changing and lowering. After time you learn the abilites of the tools in the given program, along with the ins and outs.

very true.

as with anything, there are many ways of occomplising a single task. most of the time, this takes much knowledge with the program at hand. take a simple cube with a hole in it for example. You could, simply draw a box like this [o] and extrude it, but if you make the box first, and then cut a hole it it, you have much greater control over the hole. Things such as a taper on the hole, or maybe only cutting halfway into the box could be made that way instead of simply extruding this [o].

i have only been doing 3d stuff not very long, and im about to post my progress so far - an RX-8. not the best i must admit. i just found that i went through all the tutorials that came with the 3ds max worked really well for me, so that when i looked at a car tutorial on the net after a week of the tutorials that came with it, i knew what i was doing so much better. so yea i agree with the above - starting small and simple and building up is the best way, but its also frustrating when u wanna do bigger and better things!! lol
