Easy Way To Colorize A Car

Hello to you all
This is my first tutorial
I think it is the most easy way to colorize a car, so I thought, let's make a tut

In my example we will colorize this red rx8



Step 1:
Select the part you want to colorize:
Every little piece you want to have colored should be selected. Just don't forget pieces on the car, that should not be colorized, but have a reflection of the origional color on it. For exemple the mufler pipe on this pic.



Step 2:
make a layer via copy (you could also hit [ctrl]+[c], [ctrl]+[v]



This is something I always do: When I am done selecting, I always save the car as a PSD file. This way, you can easely change your colour some other time. You will not have to select the hole thing again.

Step 3:
set the layer style on 'color'



Step 4:
Select the parts you want to paint, by holdin [ctrl] and click on the new layer. You will see the selected area again. Now hit the paintbrush icon (fourth from right), and select your color. I choose orange.



Step 5:
Move your mouse over the selected area. You will see the colour changing. Go on, till you had all the selected area's. You should have, something like this.



You could change the brightness by holdin [ctrl] and click on the new layer. Now select the background layer, and go to:
image----adjustments----hue/saturation, and slide the brightness.

To make your car look white or black, you should do it like this

Step 6:
Set the layer style of your new layer to normal. Now select the parts you want to color, by holdin [ctrl] and click on the new layer.
Now go to: image----adjustments----desaturate. You will see the car colour turn grey



Step 7:
To colour your car black or white, go to:
image----adjustments----variations
Set the configs as shown on the screen:



Step 8:
This is the final step. You can choose darker, or lighter, on the right side of the variations menu. Pick darker, to make it black, and lighter, to make it white. Easy as that

I hope you'll be able to colour your car this easy now.
Note that some selections on my example are not te best <_<

The white one isn&#39;t looking too good (looks overexposed) but the black version kicks&#33;

the white version looks overexposed to me too, but tha&#39;ts because there is too little difference between shadow pieces, and no shadow pieces.

How do you select more than one thing?

hold shift when your selection somthing and you can make another selection without looseing 1 ur already on. also by holding alt you can reamove parts prom a selection

oh man, that black looks so nice....why cant i get mine lookin like that!!! ive tried doing that but my black always turns out crap looken.......like.......it just looks like the car is in a shadow......u get what i mean?

Indeed.... that is HOW A WHITE CAR LOOKS LIKE... not TOO Bright and not TOO dark. Nice job Janx
