this is my 4th toon. im doing this for a friend and i cant resist showing people what i have so far. the actual size of the toon is a little over 2800pixels wide and XXXX pixels tall.

reason for the big size is it makes the tooning process MUCH easier on High res pics and because my friend is going to be printing this out as a poster to display next to his car at car shows/poster for his room.

so let me know what you think of it so far.

Im not very happy with the windshield and side windows so i'll probably end up redoing those. I still have to do the various highlights and shadows and nearly everything on the rims still has to be done. i still need to draw a front caliper because he has plans for the big brake upgrade so i have to guess what its going to look like on his car.

thanks, mine is a tiny bit jagged too because in the original size, it has some minor jagged lines but when it's downsized like the one you see here, the minor things disappear

how do you pro tooners do headlights? on all my previous toons ive just done some outlining to define the shapes and then i just used a variety of filters to give it a toony look. but im trying to find a different way because i just dont have the patience to do every little tiny thing in the headlights.

That looks awsome. Great job man. What tools do you use to outline the car?

Looking good.

To outline the car, use the line tool but set it to "add to" or whatever so all of your little lines stay as one layer.

Use the PEN Tool to outline the car. All you have to do is go to the 'paths' tab once you've outlined it. Grab your brush, set the size and color, then on the bottom of the paths tab there's a Circle outline button, click that and it will outline the path you just made. Just make a new path layer, and start outlining the inside lines. Continue with the same method of making the line, usually a small line looks better for the inside, while a bolder line is best for the outside.

As for this comment, to make the headlights, I usually just start off with a basic grey background, just pile on odd shapes to give the effect of a reflection. Curve the lines to give it a nice smooth look too. Use the my Celica for an example, just click this link.

Oh, btw, so far, your tune here is looking really good, congrats on it so far. It's ok if the full version has some jagged spots, as long as when you make it this size it'll all be fixed.

I also use the PEN tool instead of the line tool, because with the PEN tool i can bend the path to give a perfectly smooth curve to whatever part of the car. that way i dont have to make a bunch of straight lines to go around the curve.

in its actual size, i used a 4px brush for the outsides of the car and for the individual body parts of the car, toward the back of the car, i used a 3px brush to define the shapes back there to give the outline a bit of perspective. i also used the 3px brush to draw out all the curves and creases in the body itself.

Thanks Omicron, i'll definetly use your celica to see how i should do my headlights. I only get to work on this thing about 1 hour every other day so it'll take me at least another week before its done.

Ok, Itried what u said omicron, and it still doesn't work for me. After I outline the part that i need, the whole inside of it is black. Then I go to the paths tab and when I try to brush it, it tells me"could not use the brush tool because the content of the layer is not directly editable." I don't even know what that means. Wottahell is it speaking about? Did it ever happen to you? If so how do I fix it? Thanks again, I appreciate you helping me.

Ah, you have automatic path filling enabled. While on the paths tool, look in the upper left corner, you will see a few buttons below "image" and all that junk. It's on the right of the pen icon. There's 3 different boxes, the middle one is the one you want. That will give you just the path selection, and it won't fill it or anything. When you put your mouse over it, it will say, "paths."

Enjoy.

You should use lighter and darker colours of gray to color it too. It doesn't look very good when you've coloured it with only one color. Look at the front bumper in the orig pic and compare it to your toons bumper, there's quite a difference.

It still a WIP. That gray color is basically my base color, and from there i will create many more layers for highlights and shadows to give it the real tooned look.

Click Here for my past toons...
this accord toon is going to be a combination of dodging and burning mixed with actual tooning like on my skyline.

im using a mix of airbrushing, dodging and burning, and using multiple layers for highlights and shadows.

Let me know what you think of it so far.
