can you not desaturate the whole image the select colour you want? get rid of sharp edges 1st and blend in tho. think thats how its done best. but im no expert.

you can do it, but desaturating is the noe way to go. try rebrushing the new front end. your angles look good, so i think you should be able to make it work.
