Theres alot of people that come to this forum that are admin/mods that have their own forums such as PSU, PCN and heavyindustries (apologise for using these other sites but is part of the point im trying to make) and so on.Why not make a banner exchange where if you want to have your banner on this site the other site has to have a banner leading here.Make a seperate page called banner exchange and make sure that if you want to advertise there they have to advertise you Or have it par of your photoshop links in your links page.
However I dont agree with everyone advertising in the sigs.maybe this could be an alternative.Because I know I have clicked on a sig to bring me here and take me other places where I'm sure alot of other people have too.

Another suggestion:
What about text advertising in sigs only, not banner advertising?
[And it'd be at staff discretions. For example, approvable woud be: Check out www.blahblahblah.com, we just got a new layout!, unapprovable would be: OMFG GO TO WWW.BLAHBLAHBLAh.COM NOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111 1111111.
IT doesn't matter to me if we have ads in em or not, but I'm just trying to help with crowd-pleasing suggestions

yep, if they say no, then its no, people will come around to this way of thinking. and then theyll come up with another way to get other people top join their forums, if not then (and not to be mean or anything) they shouldnt be running a forum, or theyre not serious enough about it.
if PSC can do it why can the others do it????

I'm not blind. I was offering a suggestion because some people were complaining. Reread my post. Take it as you will.

...You know, it's not like people don't have "PSC 5000 MEMBERS STRONG" sigs, etc. I've seen PSC sigs before. They're just rare.
It's not always forum admins that have those sigs. I've seen TONS of PSU sigs, yet theres only one admin? It's a thing called pride.

the sigs with a simple link in them never bothered me but when you have sigs that actually resemble ads with flashing text and all kinds of stuff to get you attention it really pisses me off. really, we already have enough ads, why add to them?(of course i dont see the ads on here, godbless adblock)

We Love You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the compliance and the feedback.
For now, here are the main points.
1. A handful of people were way to aggressive in promoting their site or affiliated sites by plastering our forum with links, sigs, and so on. They also did this at times by twisting our improvement and news threads and critizing our site then referencing their own as superior in one way or another.
2. We are getting a lot of spam, so halting ads altogether for now will make the rule blind spammers stand right out. This will allows us a chance to observe patterns of these folks and their bots/scripts/etc and implement a better way to deal with them.
3. We are not trying to control our users voice, that is definately not the goal. We all have a project of our own or a cause that we might care to promote...... For now however, please review this thread and you can get an idea of what is acceptable and what is not. Moving foward, we are going to explore some of the suggestions we received such as perhaps a link exchange, banner exchange, or just enhancing our links section or revising the way we will utilize the 'Interesting Sites' forum. The goal will be to allow a channel off of PSC for all of our users, including relevant and related sites to our own.
Anyway, talking about promotion and all I would also like to mention that we now our LINK TO US section updated.
http://www.photoshopchop.com/link-to-us
So,,,, add a link to us.
Regards.

With all due respect, don't you find it a little odd that you want us to have PSC banners in our sigs at places, yet we aren't allowed to have banners for other places here? It just seems a little hypocritical.

I'd imagine mine is OK?
It's just my personal design venture.
Oh, and if we have features in national magazines, expect my return to chopping. I'll dig up an oldie and knock you guys dead

Hi ckg690,
No, not odd really nor hypocritical. Banner or adverts were not really the major problem. Our problem was points #1,and #2 from my earlier post.
Quote:

Our handling of the issue for now is point #3:

I never specifically asked users to include our banner in their signature but if they/you want to then we certainly appreciate it. Our LINK TO US section which I referenced actually shows how to add a link to us on an actual website as a link or even pulling in RSS or latest topics. This ties in with point #3 above. We have nothing against promotion again as noted in point #3 and we have proposed plans for links / cross promotion as noted in point #3, but we will stop activity as noted in points #1, and #2.
It really just comes down to the fact that a few people spoiled it for everyone and we have to do what we need to do to as far as moderation of the forum goes so that we concenrate on our upcoming and exciting new site revision.
I'm sure this is understandable.
Thanks.

Looks to me like a site that showcases your work, no problems with that(not so sure about the wording in it though )....

They would probably be considered personal.
So long as you have not created your own photoshop/car forum and are soliciting this site for members.
A personal site would typically have your info, images, portfolio, other neat personal stuff but not a related forum.
