Technique Request

I've seen some "black chrome" on cars recently, for example the "custom" Jettas that VW was putting out recently. Anybody have any suggestions, in either Photoshop or Paintshop Pro, of how to convert normal chrome to "black" chrome?

i know what your talking about, BMW is doing it too, im not exactly positive on how to achieve this, but If I were to guess I would say play with the contrast a little bit or maybe take something that is chrome and lower the brightness thats about all I would do

Yeah, I was thinking about doing it with Levels, instead of just brightness/saturation, but that's gonna take a LOT of tinkering, and I was hoping somebody would already have it worked out.

Guess it'll be my trick, then!

erm what if you make a new layer of white lower the oppacity then play bout with the contrast wont that work but do it vicer vercer to achieve a better effect

You mean do it with a black layer? Doesn't sound very likely, but I'll give it a shot.

i mean put a layer of white over the car then set the opacity really low and then on the other layer of the actual car play about with the brightness / contrast till you get the couler you want just tryin to help thats all hope it works thow
