Default Just for Skyline GT-R

Hey, i figured some of you might like this, especially Skyline GT-R.
A friend of mine imported a 97 R33 last year.
He had to do quite a bit of work to it, its been in the shop for over 6 months but he recently got it finished.
He ended up replacing the turbos & exhaust and doing a bunch of motor work.
He went from 292 to 550 whp. (the pics in the shop are the latest)
To put it mildly, its now one bad a$$ freakin car!
Oh also notice theres several other people in the same apartment complex that have Skylines.
Ive got my eye on a modified R34 that another friend has who is wanting to buy the new GT-R when it hits the states.
Its been converted to left hand drive which I prefer to the right hand drive.
So I might be selling my G soon.
IF/when this goes down I might have to see if you will give up your user name to me bro.
What do you say?

Wow.. more skylines in US hey.. there are thousands here.. dont get me wrong i love that car, especially the engine, when stock it blitzes the 2jz and when highly tuned with stronger internals.. it can develop and support 1000hp+... it is getting a bit boring though.. every one here has 25 gt-t's and stuff and people that dont know much about cars dont know the difference between them and gt-r's.. so skylines as a whole are getting a little overrated.. people are starting to be more interested in the more rare rx-7's, nsx's and cheaper s14, s15 silvia alternatives.. actually.. i heard about some one in queensland that swapped a sr20det for a rb26dett.. and if that is true.. that will be a killer..

Swanky. Not jealous at all (sarcasm). Unfortunately there's all too many of these in England, i don't know how 22 year old indian blokes who work for their parents afford these things.
P.S - I'm not hinting at racism by saying indian blokes, I'm merely stating an observation but i know how people aren't allowed to notice how one man may be asian, another hispanic what with society being a magnet for overuse of political correctness nowadays so i thought it'd be best to cover myself :P.

I know someone on 3geez who is buying an R32 Skyline -- RB20. What's wierd is I've been told RB20/RB25DETs are more robust than the 26's...I've heard enough to believe it, it could be that the 26 is nothing more than a detuned race motor, with long term reliability of one. I'm not sure though since I haven't looked into it that much.

The Fast and Furious movies have popularized a lot of cars, mainly DSMs (Mitsu***** Eclipse, Talon, Laser) and Skylines. I think it's too bad that a crappy serious of quick-buck wannabe street-racing movies popularized great cars like the Skyline. And more than a few people I know have bought Eclipses/Talons (often non-turbo), under the impression that they're fast. Neon motors FTL.

I'm a big fan of the pure Japanese cars that have spent some of their lives in the US. FD Mazda RX7, Supra TT, 3000GT VR4 (not so much, too unreliable and the nonturbo model is FWD), and 300ZX TT. 240SX's would be on this list if they didnt come w/the KA-truck motor throughout their model run. SR20 FTW. 240SX's, Integra GSR/Type R's, Honda Civics (and Accords Carty) have immense aftermarket support but IMO do not qualify as serious sports cars when STOCK. With some cash however it's possible. I've known about these cars before F&F, as well as many of my gearhead friends, and I can't stand when a fad movie makes everyone want a DSM, 240SX, or something like that. Like they can be drift Gods or hardcore street racers w/equipment like that. What a Shame.

Well there's my rant. Enjoy.

Moncef.

Edit: Directport, I've seen a Z33 (350Z) that was SR-equipped. IMO a car like that or the Skyline should have six cylinders, it's just a preference thing for me. Larger, heavier, serious sports/GT cars should have larger engines. And the RB20DET has iron block and tougher valvetrains that can stand up to ALS (anti-lag systems). This is what I saw in NICOclub (Nissan Infiniti Car Owners)

Quote:
Eats manifold gaskets, kills SR's without rocker arm stoppers and blows the wheel of the exhaust turbine. It will also blow open the exhaust valves a little which with hydralic lifters is a bad thing as the lifters will 'pump' up as they overextend causing general running problems. In extreme cases, if the 'gain' is set too high it can also cause borewash from the unburnt fuel.
I havent seen that happen once to an RB-powered car, down to the R31 Skyline. SR's are awesome motors, when I get a 240SX I'll be saving for a swap, but for things that can cripple a motor the RB20/25 can stand up to it.

Ceff out.

i like the tuner scene.. but give me a camaro with a 350, and i can do the same stuff if not better. i hear alot about those japanese motors doing that type of thing, and i think its because they're so overly complex. and old school 350 can take a LOT of abuse and still come back for more while still being able to put out monster power. the advantage of the 4-bangers is the rpm and responsiveness of them and the can do AMAZING thing in a small light weight car but a small block can do more amazing thing with less issues.. IMO thats why me and my brother are putting a 350 w/ a camaro 6-speed into a 92 passat. gonna sit on an early 90's mustang frame.
