you get that when you brush a bunch in a single selection. Best bet to fix it would be to use an eraser at a small setting and a high opacity to clean up the edges. Best bet to avoid it would be to avoid using a low opacity brush to brush an area for a high opacity color. (i.e. if you want to fill a selection with solid black you would use 100% opacity and go over it oncee, not use 10% and go over it 10 times.

Thanks for the reply Hawk, but looks at Joemomma's selection. It looks perfect even before he filled in the color. Joemomma, what version of PS are you using? and what tool you use for selection?

That could be it, when you make a selection and brush in it once, then again, then again, then again(a bunch of times in other words) it'll make the edges of your selection like that. Very hard to fix IMO, I haven't found a 'good way' to get rid of that problem....

....here's an idea that just popped into my head though(tried it and it worked pretty good), do what you've done there in your example...then when your done, go to select>modify>contract, put in 1 in the "Contract by__pixels" box, hit "OK", then go to select>inverse, then hit the delete button, fixed. This will make your selection 1 pixel smaller but it will definately clean up those edges...you could always select>modify>expand by 1 pixel after all that and brush the edges in, seems like a pain in the butt but it'll work.

Also, another possible problem, make sure when you have your selection tool out make sure anit-aliasing is clicked on the top menu.

EDIT: Just saw your new post, I'm using PS 7.0....the reason my selections looks smooth in the tutorial is because that picture is zoomed out some and the selection lines(dotted lines) looks smooth. And I use the polygonal lasso, some people like the pen tool but I can't get it to work right for me.
