Hi.

any way of putting a .dwg file into solidworks?

Sure there is.

1. Start a new part.
2. Click on the plane that you would like to insert the .dwg file on to
3. Click on Insert - DXF/DWG
4. Pick the correct file type and locate your file
5. On the next screen, click next
6. Pick the units of the drawing on the next screen and click finish
7. Your drawing should now be in Solidworks.
8. Be shure to dimension your drawing in Solidworks. This will constrain it.

In AutoCAD, be sure to set you drawing as close to 0,0 as possible. This will just make it easier when you import it into Solidworks. In my example, my drawing is not even close to 0,0. When I inserted it, I could not find it. I had to soom way out and move it. Hope this help. Need anything else, let me know.
