Default MK1 Golf toon

This is my first cartoon style chop. I didnt start off with a real car. It started off as this:

and ended up like this:

Real car (mine)

What do you think?

I saw your mk2. It looks nice! Funny thing is I got mine for £795 aswell! without an engine though..

The wheels I put on the golf are ATS classics, not cups. Im thinking of getting them for mine. They are far too common on mk1's though so Im trying to think of other wheels to get

Cheers

Can I get some advice about this toon?

Would like to know what other people think. Anything I shouldnt have done or whatever in terms of lines etc..? I know I didnt start out with a line drawing I made but I thought it would be the easiest way to get practice at it

Cheers

Well, you took the literal meaning of cartoon-ing.
Some advice, before coloring you should practice tracing the car with a pentool and get familiar with the tool. Try different brush sizes when stroking your paths. Just practice tracing original images: cars, planes, people, buildings, homes.. anything then post those up. Your looking to see if any of your lines look choppy and if they do then you need more anchor points and more practice with the pentool.
As for color, don't actually 'brush' use either the polygonal lasso tool or the pentool and select areas of the car and either fill using solid colors or gradients. I suggest using the pentool because you can achieve smoother edges. The lasso leaves jagged edges..
When working with lines, make sure you use different layers for different parts, like in the finished product you don't want to show the lines around ur wheel arces, or around the highlights or around the side/door trim.
Your grille need to to be redone. The lines are all over the place. Keep the background black, and make the lines white. Plus you have too many lines going across in comparison to YOUR actual car grille.
And remember, the outline should be the thickest line. 3-4 pt brush size. Good Luck.

Ok cheers. Bare in mind it was done quickly and I did it before I had even heard of tooning with phootoshop so i wasnt trying very hard. it was just an idea that started to work so went along with it.

Thanks for the advice, I will give it a go some time
