Default Engine (was supposed to be 4A-GE)

This is something I'm doing at school.. They're early stage pics, and now I'm a mile ahead. They don't look too fancy 'cos I didn't have the time to render them, but you'll get the basics. I'll try to post pics of the current progress later this week..

Oh yeah, it was supposed to be 4A-GE, but due to lack of available dimensions, I've been forced to make most of it out of my head

Thanks, they should look even better after I get them rendered. SolidWorks which I use to make these is mainly for 3D designing, not so much for the artistic side of things, so it takes a bit effort to "make them look good"..

I'm studying mechanical engineering at a technical university. This is a final assignment on a CAD course. Well, this is what I chose as my final assignment :P

Got a screenshot of it's current state.. Decided not to render it 'cos it looks crap. Apparently SolidWorks doesn't like cast parts. Or at least the pattern it's pushing out is pretty hideous..

The head and block still need a lot of work before I show them :P

Looks pretty good. What issues are you having with rendering your SW model? You can get some pretty good results using PhotoView360. PhotoWorks will give you even better results but you need to understand a little bit about lighting to get these results.

I have been using SolidWorks since '99 so if you have any questions, let me know.

Here's the render that's made with PhotoWorks. I think I need to reduce the lighting, and maybe do something to the cast pattern. IMO the crank doesn't look that nice, and the valves (titanium ) are way too bright..

Got any tips with these issues?

This isn't really the main use of SolidWorks for me, but it'd be cool to know how to make the parts look nice..!

t0tal:
Before I comment, what version of SW are you using?

Chopperkidd:
MSOE is a great school. I used to live in Milwaukee, but have moved to IL for work. I am an engineer as well.

I'll try to post some updated pics tomorrow. I've been lately working with the head and valve covers, which look quite ok after all the work.
