I dont know if this will be of help or not.
I recently did my first render and ran across this tute I had in my archives.
I think its very good but its directed toward advanced PS users and doesnt eloborate much on techniques.
(I think Ace could do a good tute on brushing)
Anyhow, give this a look-see.

It looks like your doing ok so far.
Im not so sure why you are working in sections like this though.
Its more like building a web page.

Doesn't really look finished to me...paint is flat and the selection around the tires are jagged, there's a green line around the top of the windshield remaining and I don't get why the original BG shows through the windshield but nowhere else.
