Depends on the color car your putting them on but I'd say just put the flames on a new layer and paint them white(for a dark car) or black(for a lighter car) then just turn down the opacity on the layer til you can hardly see them....hope that helps...

well first things first.. grab your base picture...

now you want to open a new layer a draw out your flames. The way that i did it becuse im not very good at free hand drawling in photoshop yet, is i searched the web for a good donor picture (goggled for a flame template). If you do it this way you don't need to open a new layer, a new one will open automaticly.

Now position the flames over the car till you like the outcome. this will take a little playing.

now you want to duplicate the origanal car picture. lower the opacity of this layer to around 80-85%. Make shure that your flames are in between the two layers of the cars.

and walla you know have your ghost flames. you can do this with any graphics you think of

here is my version after messing with it for a little bit..

hope this helps.... jason

seems to me like it would be easier to just lower the opacity or change the blending settings of the flame itself rather than create an entire car layer just to lower the opacity and stick the graphic inbetween.
