SolidWorks Contest
Anybody up for some kind of SolidWorks contest? I was thinking like a gadget contest or something along the lines of completing a simple everyday task. Kind of like cutting a pizza or something. Let me know your thoughts on this. Maybe we could put something together.

Glad some people are interested - let's get this thing rolling. We need to figure out what we are going to do, and then set up some guidelines. First off, do we want a gadget or a simple way of completing a task. I guess if we chose completing a task, it would involve designing a new type of tool or gadget. That would be cool. I am open to either. Here are some ideas:
Gadgets:
Can Opener
Blender
Toaster
Food Processor
Tasks:
Cutting a pizza
Opening a bottle/jar
Frosting a cake
Washing Dishes (Forget about dishwashers)
Threading a needle
Dusting
Feeding a pet
Cleaning the toilet

I was asked about the internals / mechanics of the gadget or machine we choose. I don't think that we will need to model these components. I may, just for the challenge, but I don't feel it should be required. I think if there are any clear or transparent parts, the items behind it should be modeled, but overall - no. Any more input is appreciated.

I know a great start to this contest! How bout a redesign of a toilet? Now hear me out...
It could be designed better to flush without clogs and better "flow" for when peeing for example.

If this ever gets going, it will be SolidWorks only. That way, we will have a completely level field to base judgement on.
Is anyone still interested in this???

i think it should be just a 3D contest, not specific to one program, so everyone can enter. some may use MAX, some may use Blender, or Rhino, etc.......just a thought
btw, Carty......that chop you did of the ztune skyline is hot!

I guess its time to kick off the competition!
If my understanding is right we had to design a product that should perform a task so heres mine! I dont really know how this could do as a real product for its a bit far fetched but i think the idea could be handy to people with disabillities. It is a battery or power operated toothpaste dispenser. Its started by pressing your toothbrush against a button at the back starting the motor wich moves the rollers downward. i dont really know how the speed will be controlled maybe with a ajustable resistor or something or with varrieng thread on the screw mechanism moving the arms downward. A sensor will probably detect when the toothbrush is out from under the toothpaste tube and thus switching the motor of.
Thus as i said this idea is a bit far fetched but could come in handy!
C&C welcome.
PS. i made a typing error on the reset button.
