Creating A NOS Purge.
This tutorial will show you how to create a realistic NOS purge on your car.

Step 1:

Lets start with this semi tuned Honda Civic.

Step 2:

Next create a new layer like so.

Step 3:

Use the line tool on your new layer and create a few array type lines.  I have used white as my color and the line tool's pixel size is 1 pixel.  Make something similar to what I have below.

Step 4:

After creating your lines you should have a few layers looking like what is below.  Once you have them the way you want them link them all by clicking the blank box next to the visible eye icon.  Once linked make sure to uncheck the eye icon next to your Civic layer so its not selected.  When done choose Layer/Merge Visible.  This will make all your line layers one single layer.

Step 5:

Once they are all now one layer make sure that layer is highlighted and then use your smudge tool.  With the smudge tool make sure you have a large round brush with normal mode selected and anything in between 40 and 50 percent of strength.  Then take one swip starting from the bottom of the array to the top.  You will then get your purge type look.  Try it a few times to get what your looking for.

Step 6:

Your final product should look something like what I have below.
