item - 8pc lot of NOS (new, old stock) 1mb 20pin DRAM DIP chips, 70ns Mitsubishi 5V FPM (Fast Page Mode). Each chip is 256k x 4 bits (or 1 megabit) thus 8 chips equal 1 megabyte (non-parity). This is the most common "large" DIP for legacy Apple II, Amiga, etc RAM expansion (over 1 MB max). The most common "small" DIP (1 MB max & under) is the 256k x 1, 16pin DIP. Besides various legacy RAM uses, these are the common "VRAM" chips used on (later) 1MB ISA SVGA video cards (Tseng, Oak, etc).from Amiga Hardware Database (online)...All A3000s have 1 MB chip RAM (8x 44256k 120ns DRAM DIP) soldered to their motherboard, 8 DIP sockets that can accept 1 MB, and 32 ZIP sockets that can accept 4 or 16 MB. However, these two types of Fast RAM (DIP and ZIP) cannot be used together, since the DIP sockets are bank 0 and the ZIP sockets are split into 4 banks (bank 0-3) with the 1st bank (bank 0) hardwired to the DIP sockets! Fully populated, max RAM for the 32 ZIP sockets is 4 or 16 MB via either 256k x 4 or 1Mb x 4 ZIP chips (both 20 pin and 80ns or faster) but only in groups of 8 and the same sized chip. These ZIP chips can be either Fast Page Mode (FPM) or Static Column (SC) where SC supports burst memory access which (in theory) performs 5-10% faster than FPM.Many A3000s shipped with 1 MB installed in the DIP sockets (8pc 256x1) that was intended for removal during RAM upgrade.
