Mynext ATARI item up for your consideration is:
Thisis a very clean 800. It was recently stripped down to the card andchip level, cleaned reassembled, and thoroughly tested. All chipswere pulled and re-seated. The memory cards and the CPU board havebeen pulled, cleaned and lubricated with electronic contactcleaner/lubricant. This cleans any contamination or corrosion nowand in the foreseeable future. The 35 years of internal dust wasvacuumed & blown out or brush removed and all surfaces cleanedincluding the keyboard. I used a brush on a vacuum then a canned airduster to clean the keyboard. While the Keys of an 800 are easy toremove, I do not recommend it and it is unnecessary.
Isee (2) main age related problems with Atari 800 computers.
1)Pin to connector corrosion or oxidization, eventually causingfailure. Re-seating chips & boards and cleaning &lubricating is a fantastic way to keep these old Atari-treasuresalive much longer.
2)The Keyboards… The keys tend to go bad without use. Since thereare no brand new 800 keyboards (not yet anyhow) out there - they mustbe taken care of. The best way is good constant use and a littleTLC. That being said there were two keys that repeated and two keysthat did not initially respond. Last month I gave this 800 keyboardsome TLC and since then and untilnow every key responds well. I havealso had this on the bench for three weeks with no furtherissues. Using the keyboard gently is the best way tokeep them going...
Thisunit is in great condition, there is yellowing but is very mild andnormally for its age and constant throughout. Since the 800 isnormally a tan/brown color the yellowing does not show very well inpictures. Unless you have a brand new Atari product to compare it toyou would likely never notice… The original RF cable was removed in favor of the included removable Monitor cable forthe very best ATARI 800 video quality.
