PP&S 040/2000 68040 33MHz accelerator w/ 32MB Commodore Amiga:
$400.00

Progressive Peripherals & Software 040/2000 33MHz 68040 accelerator w/32MB 60ns RAM installed in excellent cosmetic and working condition. I personally upgraded the CPU to the latest 40MHz 68040 mask revision (L88M),a die shrink and chip flip that allows MUCH cooler operation than any previous revision. I removed and replaced the factory cooling fan with a low profile (7mm) 5v heatsink/cooling fan combo. Thefan assembly easily clears the floppy drive shelf with plenty of gap for air intake. The radial exhaustpattern of the cooling fan also helps cool the surroundingPALchips. Ireplaced the soldered 56MHz oscillator with a socketed 66MHzfora speed upgrade to 33MHz (gently zip-tied for security). I selected very low profile two-chip ram SIMMs to allow extra clearance and airflow where thisportion of the card shares space with the A2000 power supply output cabling (cable does not even touch the card normally). I replaced the 4 small electrolytic capacitors with low profilesolid aluminum polymer caps. The board is immaculately clean, completely stable at 33MHz operationand ready for someone who wants to upgrade to a 68060 with one of themany emerging variants ofsocket voltage adapters out in the wild.

The memory on board does not completely auto configure; what does auto configure is a portion the user sets via jumpers for 2, 4 or 8 MB. The rest must be added duringthe Amiga startup-sequence via software. By FAR the best tool for this at the moment (opinion) is Thomas Richter\'s (Thor) MuLibs package on Aminet. The original PP&S software is outdated and not what I would choose to use, but it is also available on line.

The memory configuration I ended up going with was the manufacturer default setting of 2MB autoconfig within the Amiga\'s 24bit (Zorro II) address space and the remainder added via MuLibs. The mapping of a small portion within the ZII space helps tremendously with any DMA hard drive controller to retain at least some real speed and not take a major transfer rate hit (A2091 in my example).

A really nice accelerator but I have started another project with my GVP 040 combo and must let this go.
