Vintage Disk Pack Platters, Used in Main Frame Computing, Used :
Up for sale is a disk pack used by main frame computers for data storage in the early days of computing. The disk pak is marked "Alpha Pak" on the bottom and gives the location in California where the company is located. I'm not sure of the computer this pak was used with as I obtained this item at a garage sale many years ago. I know I used similar paks when I was a computer operator back in the '60s and '70s. I believe this one is probably from the '80s or '90s though. I have not opened this disk pak to view the disks close up. This item may still be usable if used with the correct computer system. I have no idea if there is any usable data on this item or exactly what it may contain.
The pak looks to hold 40 - 3 1/2" disks as best as I could determine looking through the plastic container that holds them. The pak is 10" tall, 6" in diameter at the top, 8" in diameter at the bottom, and it weighs a little over 4 pounds. The big label on the disk pak may give some information as to where it's from. Perhaps some viewer can provide some additional information on this item.
