Vintage IBM 3850 3851 MASS STORE \"HONEYCOMB\" AND 10 CARTRIDGES:
$999.95

Up for sale is this IBM Mass Storage System (aka 3851 or 3850)  It is presumed to have come from McDonnel Douglass since I acquired it from the Estate of one of their MDAIS (McDonnell Douglas Aerospace Information Services Company) era IT Engineers.  The cartridges may or may not contain data from the McDonnell Douglas 1980\'s era.  It was a system that saved $$ for the big customers that needed a LOT of online storage (well, \"lot\" is a relative term) back in the 70s. The system was announced in October of 1974.  The biggest IBM DASD (Direct Access Storage Device....aka disk drive) that IBM produced at the time was the 3330 disk pack with a capacity of 100 megabytes (that was HUGE at the time).  The 3850 Mass Storage System Data Cartridge could hold 50 megabytes of data (2 cartridges = 1 disk pack) The huge dual honeycombs inside the 3850 could max out at 9440 cartridges or 4.720 Gigabyte (unfathomable in those days)
