Working Atari 520ST Home Computer, 1MB RAM, TOS 1.00:
$149.00

This1-megabyte Atari 520ST home computerseems to be in good, working condition andis a great entry-level computer to the 16-bit series of home computers manufactured by Atari in 1985 that continues to have a sizable following today among both 16-bit Atari users across the world and other retro fans taking advantage of modern hardware add-ons like UltraSatan, along with networking, internet, and the ability to use a modern USB mouse. Theadditional512K RAM offers more operating space over the standard 520ST (512K RAM) for everything from the massive library of 16-bit arcade-quality games to vintage business software to eye-popping demos that show-off what this powerful 16-bit machine can do in the right hands. With built-in MIDI and ST music software, you can even enjoy mixing music or sound sampling!I\'ve relied on the publicly-availableSysInfoprogram for RAM and TOS version information. While sold as \"working,\" and given the age of the unit(approximately 33 years), terms of sale are:AS-IS. (See \"What to Expect for Packaging,\" below.) Purchaser should be familiar with and understand those issues and repairs that might arise with an Atari 520ST home computer, and be comfortable troubleshooting and repairing and maintaining one— or be willing to seek same from an online Atari community. I recommend Atari Age, but Atari-Forum has more Atari ST-oriented activity in my estimation; both can be found through most online search engines.

Those scouting for a backup 520ST to go with the one they\'re using already may want to consider picking this one up, too, as a working stand-by.

Method of Testing:

I used an Atari SF314 external drive (not included) withSysInfoon the floppy disk (not included). System booted appropriate to the ST series: quickly, when there was a floppy drive attached with a diskette inserted; longer delay, when absent, but still successful boot to TOS ROM. I used a bench power supply (not included) and bench Atari 2-button mouse (not included) as part of the testing to determine if the system worked.

included, identifying 1MB of on-board RAM in the system, and TOS 1.00 being the ROM.

• Some yellowing of the keyboard and option keys. See photos for review.

• The stamped 3-letter section of serial code is fuzzed as seen in theclose-up photo included among the photos for the listing.

•I spotted a couple micro-dings in the top case, and am including photos from all angles for those interested in case there are any others.

• No known issues with display via monitor port using an Atari SC1224 monitor (not included). System shifted between low and medium resolutions without any trouble. Screenshots may show the typical interlacing/banding due to the vintage monitor\'s vertical blank and refresh rates whileusing a cell phone camera.

•Keyboard keys worked, and clicked through testing monitor\'s speaker as expected. Option/Function keys worked while usingSysInfoto move through the screens of information.

•No issues using a testAtari mouse (not included) on the appropriate port.

•No other ports were used/tested, including hard drive and printer ports and cartridge port.

condition means I was able to successfully boot the computer to its ROM-based operating system both with and without an external floppy drive, using my test power supply for the Atari 520ST.SysInfoprovided the amount of installed RAM— I did not disassemble the unit to visually verify the presence of the RAM, however, and so cannot say if this is a factory RAM installation or a previous owner’s.A power supply is NOT included with this unit.*

I make no warranties but have tried to be as descriptive as I could think of, and am selling the Atari 520ST as-is. Please feel free to review photos for physical condition of the unit. All photos were taken using a Samsung Note 8 with flash enabled.

may want to either replace the otherwise functioning but yellowing keyboard at some point or look into \"retrobriting,\" and I would recommend seeking advice through the Atari Age forums (search using your preferred search engine) for a wealth of experience helpful to any 16-bit Atari owner. Beyond that, this seems like a functional and decent early ST for those looking to enjoy what the 16-bit generation of home computers offers and continues to entertain and intrigue retro computer users. I\'m an 8-bit Atari owner myself. :)
