My home media needs are pretty simple. At this point a mirrored pair of drives works for me. However, I wanted to be able to be able to dual-boot the PC with Windows 10 and Linux, There's no compatible software RAID solution for this. Linux doesn't support Windows dynamic disks, and Windows doesn't support Linux's MD. I have many LSI based cards in use at work, so I'm familiar with them. My budget isn't as large as the IT budget at work, so I was looking for an affordable solution that works. When I found and purchased this card, I copied my data volume twice to separate disks, then installed the card, and created the RAID 1 volume, then copied the data back to the new volume. Windows 10 and Linux both recognized the card, no search for drivers needed. I'm glad I made two copies of the data, one of the temporary disks I used turned out to be marginal, with two copies I was able to restore everything successfully. This card isn't the right choice for more advanced RAID uses, for that go for a MegaRAID controller with a battery cache backup. For a hardware mirror, this card is an affordable option.Read full review
