Apple G3 Tower - Vintage, Excellent Condition + Accessories:
$110.00

Apple G3 Tower for sale. Fully functional & in EXCELLENT condition. A few very minor light scratches from gentle use over the years but other than that, in extremely good condition & very well cared over. This has been in my personal possession for a little over the last 10 years. This is definitely a vintage collector\'s item or it might make a good, first learning computer for a young one.The RAM (memory) has been upgraded/ expanded on this computer. Stock is 128 MB I think. This has 320 MB of memory. There are also a few versions out there of this computer that have various CPU speeds. This is one of the faster ones I think. It is 400 MHz. See one of the pics, it has other technical data about this computer.* * * For now, I am KEEPING the 12GB hard drive. I don\'t think I have the original system factory restore CD to reformat the hard drive. However, there are options. Most new owners I\'m guessing will want to upgrade from the original, small 12 GB hard drive to a much larger, more modern sized one. Plus, this hard drive has an older, outdated Mac OS 9.1 operating system. Other sellers on offer every Apple/ Mac operating system & they usually go for $20 - $100+ depending on the version. If you absolutely must have the hard drive, contact me & we can work something out. * * *Included with the tower are the original Apple keyboard that I think came with this computer, and original Apple mouse also looking like a match for this computer, & a Belkin USB Hub with the connector cable. It lets you turn one USB drive into four so that you can plug even more stuff in like a scanner, printer, digital camera, external floppy disk drive, external hard drive, etc.About this shipping, I\'m gonna put local only for now but I CAN ship this item. If I recall, when I bought this computer off a while back, the shipping was $35-$40. I will ship it at cost & pay for the materials & the handling & all that myself, no worries. Contact me & I can provide you with a shipping quote if interested.Edit - FYI, this IS the famous \"Revision 2\" model. I personally verified the 402 marking on the IDE controller chip. See this:\"The Revision 2 B&W G3 uses a different motherboard, has an additional drive bracket, incorporates a new IDE controller chip (marked 402) that supports UDMA-33, and includes a faster version of the ATI Rage 128 video card. 350 MHz and 400 MHz models may have either motherboard; 450 MHz versions only shipped from the factory with the Rev. 2 board. The improved IDE controller supports the standard master/slave drive configuration and solves a drive corruption problem. The Revision 1 board isn’t stable with many modern hard drives on the built-in IDE bus because the controller doesn’t support UDMA (Mac OS X does an end run around this problem by disabling UDMA on the Rev. 1 motherboard).

A common suggestion in the old days was to put the hard drive on the 16.7 MBps ATA-3 bus used by the optical drive, but the Rev. 1 motherboard doesn’t support booting from hard drives on that bus. See the Wikipedia article about the Blue & White G3 for a lot more information about Rev. 1 failings.

When buying a Blue & White G3, insist on getting a Revision 2 system. The best way to make sure you’re getting a Rev. 2 motherboard is the “402” marking on the CMD646 IDE controller chip. See Accelerate Your Mac! for more details on differences between these motherboard revisions.

Although this model doesn’t support drives larger than 128 GB on its main 33 MHz drive bus, the 16.7 MHz bus used for the optical drive supports multi-word DMA 2 and may support larger hard drive.\"
